About
Hi!
I have been recognized by TED Talks as a "Change Maker," a title that has received international recognition. I would like to speak at TED Talks, but I am competing for the wild card guest speaker position. There are other students that have the "Change Maker" title. Out of 20 people selected in the whole United States I am in second place i the running to present my "Change Maker" idea. I need your help to get there. Help me make innovative changes in the world!
I am a University of San Diego Student. I have been in the military for over 10 years and I am a sociology major. I started a group at my campus called THINK. The focus of THINK is getting people together that cross paths from time to time but do not really converse with each other.
The idea is to have people from all walks of life meet and discuss sociological issues. Our meetings are held every Friday from 3pm to 4pm/4:30pm depending on how the discussion is going.
When we meet, we share a meal together and discuss issues that we are concerned with. As well we discuss innovative solutions to the issues we discuss and come up with constructive ways to implement them into society.
We encourage students, faculty, and local members of our society to come to these meetings and add to the conversation. Everyone's opinion is important. No one is judging anyone. And one of the best things about THINK is that everyone leaves the meeting having learned something.
Another aspect of what we do is, as the president of THINK, I assign mini homework. What I mean by this is that when we decide on the topic for the next discussion, we come up with possible ways to share what we have learned during our meeting with others throughout the week. As well we research the topic(s) that we will be discussing at the next meeting.
What I hope to achieve with THINK is having it expand from campus to campus, creating more interconnectedness between people that on average usually say hello in passing, but could be much more influential in each others lives.
