Q2: Why isn't there a "Full Screen" button for videos on Google Chrome?
A: Google Chrome has chosen not to support resizing or moving of its browser window. It is the only major browser that does not follow this convention. Because of this, BingeNow does not display a "Full Screen" button when viewed with the Google Chrome browser. As a partial work around, you can expand your browser window to fill your whole screen, then use the "Zoom" feature. For more technical information on this Google Chrome bug, you can read chromium MR 1091.
Q3: Why doesn't the "Full Screen" button for videos always work on Safari?
A: If you have a single tab in the Safari browser window you are using to view BingeNow, the "Full Screen" button will work properly as expected. However, if you have more than one tab open in the current Safari browser window, clicking on "Full Screen" will just zoom the video to the full size of your current browser window. This is because Safari does not allow website to change the size of your browser window when there is more than one tab. Other browsers, like Firefox 4, do not have this restriction, and there the "Full Screen" button always works as expected, even when there are multiple tabs.
Q4: Is there anything I can do to make my videos upload faster?
A: The time it takes to upload a video is dependent on how large the video file is and how fast of an upstream Internet connection you have. There's not much you can usually do about your Internet connection, other than not using it for other high bandwidth tasks while uploading videos. But there are some things you can do to make your video files smaller.
There's a big difference in how well various video encoding formats will compress your video. For the best quality and size trade-off, we recommend you upload videos as .mp4 files (MPEG-4, H.264, also known as AVC). Some other formats can easily produce files twice as large for the same resolution video.
The biggest impact on file size is from the resolution of the video. A 1080p video can easily require a file that is three or more times larger than the same video in 480p. However, you'll want to upload your video in 1080p format if at all possible, since that will provide the highest quality playback options for viewers. We do NOT recommend uploading videos in resolutions lower than 480p.
Broadband Internet connections vary widely in the speed they offer, but most commonly will give you about 3-6 Megabits per second of upload speed (and 10-100 Megabits per second download speed). With network overhead, a 3 Mbps upload speed would give you a maximum of about 350 Kilobytes per second of upload speed, or about 21 Megabytes uploaded per minute. Your speed could be drastically less, especially for some DSL services or if your connection is shared with other houses or people. But if you can achieve that speed, that means that a 300 Megabyte video would take about 15 minutes to upload to BingeNow. Sometimes it's best to upload videos when you won't be using your computer, such as overnight. Though you can still use BingeNow and other sites while an upload is happening in the background--your Internet speed will just be a little slower.
We would also suggest that you take advantage of the option to specify a channel for your video to go to before you upload the video. That way, as soon as the video has been uploaded and re-encoded on our site, it will automatically show up in your channel.
Q5: Can I upload a video from an iOS device (iPad or iPhone)?
A: No. These devices do not have any functionality to upload a file to a website. This was a choice made by Apple. In future, we might offer an iPhone/iPad app that would provide an upload feature, but there is no way to do this from the website.
