My name is Antoine Griggs. I am a twenty five year old singer, (baritone), from Detroit, Michigan who is aspiring to make a career out of singing; mostly in opera. I have a Bachelor’s Degree in Vocal Performance from Morehouse College in Atlanta, Georgia where I studied with Timothy Miller and sang many solos with the world renowned Morehouse College Glee Club under the direction of Dr. David E. Morrow. I am currently working on a Master’s Degree in Vocal Performance at Georgia State University in Atlanta, Georgia. At GSU, I am studying voice with Kathryn Hartgrove and singing operatic roles in the opera program. In the recent past, I have sung several operatic roles. Some of them include: Albert in Massenet’s “Werther” (Georgia State University), and The Custom’s Officer in Puccini’s “La Boheme (Capitol City Opera). Also Frances Nurse in Robert Ward’s “The Crucible” (Georgia State University). Also in Atlanta, I sing in the professional choral ensemble: “Uzee Brown Society of Choraleers”, under the direction of Dr. Uzee Brown, Jr., and I am a staff singer at North Side Drive Baptist Church under the direction of Paul Fletcher.In addition to singing roles in operas and with choral ensembles, I have participated in several voice master classes with such renowned artists and teachers such as: Thomas Hampson, Lawrence Brownlee, Daniel Washington, Roderick Dixon, and Robert Sims.I have received many awards for singing. Some include: Heritage Music Festival (First Place), Detroit NAACP ACT-SO Competition (Gold Winner), Detroit Symphony Nelson Foundation Award (First Place), James Tatum Scholarship Award, and Madonna University Masterclass Singer’s Award. I also was asked to perform at the Berkshire Choral Festival in 2009. In order for me to be successful in my endeavor to make a career of singing, it will cost me a lot of funds that I don’t currently have. I will need these funds for lessons, application fees for master classes, competitions, and auditions. I also will need funds for travel and lodging.
