About
8th-Light is a Producer/Emcee/Engineer From San Antonio,Tx. Growing up in Texas in a single parent household , his mother always had him involved in music. At an early age she had him singing in youth church choir ,then violin lessons. In middle school he enrolled in his middle school band earning his postion as 1st chair percussionist; winning UIL competitions. Always a fan of rap music from whatever was on TV/Radio, to the new sound of Screw music that was popular; he was always playing around with his friends freestyling and writing poems every now and then. It wasn't until his freshman year of high school that he was exposed to the true culture of hip-hop." I remember I was at my boy K-Beezys house playin Grand Theft Auto III listening to mix CD's we would make and my boy had "The Blast" by Talib Kweli & Dj Hi-Tek playing. After hearing that record, I was unplugged out the matrix." 8th found a new hobby to do. During his high school days he would always write rhymes in class and sharing them with friends and his crew. Tired of downloading unofficial instrumentals form the internet, he decided to take his knowledge of music and started making beats. With a demo version of FL Studio, he began his road of making music. Studying artist from Nas, Mos Def,Talib Kweli, Big L, UGK, Biggie ,Jay-Z etc; and producers like Pete Rock, Dj Premier ,Hi-Tek ,Organized Noise, etc, everything he did involved the culture. At 17 , he sold his first beat for 200$, working with local artist from San Antonio,Austin, and Houston. Due to his "outside the box" sound that was different from the screw music, and wanting to establish himself outside his hometown, in the end of 2008 on New Years Eve he packed up his belongings and moved to New York landing on exactly midnight of 2009. Formerly known in his hometown as Archatek he decided to change his name to 8th-Light taking the name from a song title on Talib Kweli & Mos Def's classic album "Blackstar".Attending the Institute of Audio Research to learn how to engineer, he continued to be a student of the culture growing musically. Finally in 2012 he drops his debut mixtape "Lightspeed". 15 tracks recorded ,mixed ,produced ,and written by him. The mixtape consist of heavy soul sampling ,boom bap, 808, and original produced music w/ minor guests appearances from people he knew from Texas as well as NY." I wanted to be able to connect with my people from Texas as well as people in NY; showing my range as a musician.
