African Americans have made and are still making valuable inventions that are improving the lives and prosperity of people in the United States and around the world. Many people especially young African Americans think all African American inventors are dead. They say this because they don't know who or where they are, and what contributions they are making to society. The purpose of this channel is to change this perception and to provide modern role models of invention to motivate and increase confidence in the African American youth so that they too can be inventors and major contributors to our society. This series is initially focused on inventors in science, engineering and mathematics.

Jesse Russell is one of the inventors and pioneers in the development of digital celluar telephone networks. Digital celluar network technology is the enabling technology that is allowing wireless networks the bandwidth or capacity to offer large scale use of mobile phones, and new features such as text messaging, video and various digital applications. Jesse is a graduate of Tennessee State University, an historically Black College and University (HBCU). He has over 14 telecommunication inventions that have been patented and is truly a modern and active role model for youth interested in becoming an engineer. His story is motivating and let's you know that you too can become an inventor and achieve high levels of success in engineering
